Mods Rule at the Lambretta Jamboree 2015

k150_27heel iconIt was Mods weekend as the Lambretta Jamboree rolled through town, a four-day scooter rally put on by the Lambretta Club USA that included festivities from group rides to live bands to dinners and pool parties. I attended Friday night’s party scene at T. Boyle’s Tavern in Pasadena.

It was a rowdy night of scooter boys and groovy girls with the band The Bassics revving things up with a rawkin’ mix of early Who and Jam-inspired music. I couldn’t help but take pix of some of the best ‘60s era looks of the night. I had to debut my latest outfit from Tatyana, a form-fitting shift dress with crisscross straps on top and shimmery dark blue material with gold detail.

Check out the scene:

1960’s Ye-Ye Fashion Show and Wine Tasting

k150_23SZDNothing is more groovy than stepping back into the era of 1960’s French Yé-Yé. Clever Vintage Clothing and LA Wine Tasting joined forces at the Luxe Hotel on Sunset Blvd. to create a evening of French ‘60s style revelry with an exquisite selection of wines, a vintage fashion show and a performance by the band Paris Loves LA, featuring French expat singer Adele Jacques.

For a little history, French Yé-Yé came about when French singers like Brigitte Bardot  tried to perform American pop songs but didn’t know the words in English so they sang, “Ye, Ye…,” which made them sound utterly charming and of course they were always stylishly dressed.

For the fashion show, Clever Vintage curators Dave and Sabino brought in a goldmine of ‘60s deadstock (never been worn) ‘60s outfits in perfect condition after recently buying up the inventory of a department store that had been closed and untouched since 1968.  Bright colors and bold patterns ruled these knitwear sets.

collage1We felt like our own little gang of ‘60s girls. After walking our runway around the pool, the band started up and we couldn’t help but dance to their infectious sounds, in fact, we even jumped up on stage with them and became their go-go dancers!

For our grand finale, three of the models showed a vintage swimwear collection and really made a splash by jumping in the pool! But much to everyone’s delight, the biggest surprise was Clever founder Dave Temple jumping in with them – clothes and all!

It was a fun, wild night, much like they had in the ‘60s I’m sure. Many thanks to Clever Vintage Clothing for letting me be a part of it.

Look of the Day: Carnaby Street

k150_23SZDheel iconToday’s look brings back the days of swinging London in the 1960s. I enjoyed some of the warm Los Angeles weather to don a vintage, color-block, A-line dress, vintage low-heeled shoes with a dainty front tie, ball-drop earrings and big frame Jackie O.-style sunglasses. The circle-pattern purse is direct from Carnaby Street. I picked it up on a trip I took to England a few years back.

For this photo shoot, I got to work with photographer Erica Hampton, be sure to check out her work.

Spin Out: Get Your Sunday Night Groove On!

k150_16heel iconWhenever I can get my groove on to get dressed up and hang with my pals, it’s a good night. Throw in some ‘60s soul and mod and it’s a great night. That’s why I like hanging at Spin Out. Taking place at Footsie’s once a month, it’s a low key bar, with a little dance floor, a pool table, a patio, some round booths and great DJs. Plus it’s an early evening, starting at 5 p.m. for us workin’ gals to still be able get their party on. And did I mention great music? The DJs spin goodl ol’ vinyl with awesome sounds from psychedelic to garage to soul and mod. It’s my kind of place! Check out the party pix:

Clever Vintage Fashion Show

Knowing my love for the ‘60s, my pals at Clever Vintage Clothing invited me to model in their fashion show at the photo exhibit of iconic shutterbug Phil Stern who had his celebrity snaps on display at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.

A bevy of vintage-loving scenesters babe turned up to help show off Clever’s finest ‘60s era threads in the style of old style fashion shows

Fittings took place a week prior and I was lucky enough to find a teal and olive floor length gown fit for a Bond girl. I dreamed about wearing that dress all the way up to the event!

Call time was 6 p.m. and backstage was a flurry of last minute wardrobe changes, hair teasing, white clouds of hair spray, and makeup touchups. Special thanks to my hair and makeup artist pal Rachelle of Bella Bella salon in Pasadena for coming out to help with my updo and pitching-in to help other girls get period-perfect hair.

Clever’s Dave and Sabino laid out a buffet of vintage handbags and shoes to go with our outfits and it was like being in a candy store. When it was all done, the entire room looked like it a movie set of the 1960s with the girls in elegant eveningwear holding their numbered cards to let the guests know details and designers of their outfits.

Our gaggle of models were trickled out into the crowd, walking through with our numbers, stopping and doing a spin every so often as people asked about our gorgeous frocks as they also enjoyed a selection of Italian wines provided by LA Wine Tasting and gazed upon Mr. Stern’s amazing collection of photos. As I gazed upon black ‘n’ candid moments with Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, I could only imagine what it was like to be back in a era of glamour and pop culture influence that extends to today.

What a great night! Click the image below to see the photos:

Sixties and the City

I recently feel in love – with a store. Invited to attend a product launch at the Lomography Gallery Store, I had no idea what I was in for. I walked into this colorful place and discovered hundreds of cameras in bright colors and designs – crazy fisheye lenses, panoramic shooters and more, all looking like some kind of crazy toys from Hello Kitty to pop art.  Lomography is the art of analog photography, all film, no digitals, these cameras perform all kinds of tricks from wild angles to double exposure to push the envelope on creative expression. With so much possibility, a creative mind could go crazy in this story – and they can help with that too – plenty of books on hand to show what can be done with these cameras plus workshops to try your hand. The store and website aim to create a Lomography community encouraging everyone to shoot from the hip, share tips, enter contests and swap photos. I’m in! The party was the release of the new La Sardina, modeled to look like sardine tin and the party theme was a night in Venice with mandolin players and sales clerks dressed like gondoliers, and don’t forget the Italian Ice- my pal Cary was on hand with his C.K. Farnsworth’s Vintage Soda Fountain serving up handmade, all-natural Italian ice and OMG those are good! All I know is I will be back to this store to start my new analog camera collection – look for some cool photos coming to this blog! In the meantime check out some snaps below from the party.

That’s a wrap,
