Mods Rule at the Lambretta Jamboree 2015

k150_27heel iconIt was Mods weekend as the Lambretta Jamboree rolled through town, a four-day scooter rally put on by the Lambretta Club USA that included festivities from group rides to live bands to dinners and pool parties. I attended Friday night’s party scene at T. Boyle’s Tavern in Pasadena.

It was a rowdy night of scooter boys and groovy girls with the band The Bassics revving things up with a rawkin’ mix of early Who and Jam-inspired music. I couldn’t help but take pix of some of the best ‘60s era looks of the night. I had to debut my latest outfit from Tatyana, a form-fitting shift dress with crisscross straps on top and shimmery dark blue material with gold detail.

Check out the scene:

Unique Vintage – “I Am Unique” Party

k150_25heel icont’s pretty clear that any girl who wears vintage-inspired fashion is usually a unique personality. For this reason, the store Unique Vintage, which a caters to retro fashion lovers, decided to showcase their customers and employees who live in looks from the 1920s-70s and also lead unique lives.

They kicked off their “I Am Unique” Campaign with a party in their Burbank store. Cocktails, photos ops and deep discounts does a party make! So I went to check out the scene and a say hello to my pal Nicolle of Niccoco Creations who had her own table selling her gorgeous flower hair clips.

Also in attendance were many of the women featured in the Unique Vintage commercial and I have to say Queenie the pitbull stole the show in her pink tutu, pearls and sweet disposition. Queenie, and her owner Michelle Choi, represent Pinups for Pitbulls, an organization whose mission is to to educate people about the history, temperament, and plight of pitbulls, who often get a bad rap as being overly-aggressive animals.

I did some shopping from the sale rack (I love a good deal!) and scored a fabulous dress for a steal. Look for it featured in an upcoming blog post!

Look of the Day: Carnaby Street

k150_23SZDheel iconToday’s look brings back the days of swinging London in the 1960s. I enjoyed some of the warm Los Angeles weather to don a vintage, color-block, A-line dress, vintage low-heeled shoes with a dainty front tie, ball-drop earrings and big frame Jackie O.-style sunglasses. The circle-pattern purse is direct from Carnaby Street. I picked it up on a trip I took to England a few years back.

For this photo shoot, I got to work with photographer Erica Hampton, be sure to check out her work.

Look of the Day: Checkered Mod

k150_23SZDheel iconI love the ‘60s and mod/ska fashions, which consists of a lot of black and white in bold prints of stripes and checks. This playful, rockin’ look has become quite a trend in women’s fashion at the moment. This checkered shift dress is comfy and makes a big statement partnered with a pop of orange with a vintage chiffon scarf and a fun purse made from old 45 records.

I got my purse from a market in Buenos Aires from a lady who makes them herself, but you can find similar handbags on Ebay. I finished the look with a rhinestone cat collar bracelet and pair of side zip ankle boots.  See the links below or click the pix to shop* the look:

Spin Out: Get Your Sunday Night Groove On!

k150_16heel iconWhenever I can get my groove on to get dressed up and hang with my pals, it’s a good night. Throw in some ‘60s soul and mod and it’s a great night. That’s why I like hanging at Spin Out. Taking place at Footsie’s once a month, it’s a low key bar, with a little dance floor, a pool table, a patio, some round booths and great DJs. Plus it’s an early evening, starting at 5 p.m. for us workin’ gals to still be able get their party on. And did I mention great music? The DJs spin goodl ol’ vinyl with awesome sounds from psychedelic to garage to soul and mod. It’s my kind of place! Check out the party pix:

It’s a Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod World

Are you a mod or a rocker? I have to admit I like a bit of both, but I do have a soft spot for the groovy smoothness of the mod squad, especially when it comes to their choice ride, the scooter.

The Petersen Automotive Museum is currently celebrating the scooter with an exhibit chronicling the history and I checked it out during a special event where they encouraged locals to bring their own to enter a contest for best thing on two wheels. Inside the museum were vintage scooters and modern scooters but I have to say, the parking lot was where the best looking scooters were hangin’. Local mods with tricked-out, multi-mirrored, checker and leopard trimmed hot wheels had the most personality. It was especially fun to see them all take off and ride over to Molly Malone’s in a huge pack after the contest!

So where else would I be when the Mod Weekender came around, courtesy of Rich Sihilling of Bullet Club fame. Three action packed days of mod, mod, mod!  Friday night was for dancin’ and while it wasn’t super crowded, the music was great for some fancy footers who shook it with a backdrop of ‘60s imagery. DJ Jesse Trejo played such amazing stuff I have to get that setlist on my iPod!

The next day’s vintage fair gave modsters a chance to pull some new threads while the scooter run from Griffith Park wasn’t exactly smooth sailing, filled with breakdowns, crashes and a run-in with the cops who couldn’t quite figure out, “who are these stylish road warriors?”

Saturday night the place was packed with a full lineup of bands. I was diggin’ the garage sonic sounds of the Swarm and the blue-eyed soul of the 20 Grand Club whose big sound blew the roof off the place. They were followed by the more punkish pop of the Question who closed the night with a little vocal help from Jerry Miller of the Untouchables.

Sunday was for recovering and those who could soothe their achin’ dancin’ feet to make it to the lunchtime BBQ and Santa Monica scooter run.
